Joe is talking to Beth, his colleague from the UK who is working in Taiwan. They are talking about New Year plans...
喬正在與貝絲談話。貝絲是從英國外派到台灣的同事。他們正在討論跨年計劃。
Joe : Hey, Beth, what are you doing at Western New Year?
喬：嗨，貝絲。妳跨年想要如何過呢？
Beth: I don't know yet–
貝絲：我還沒決定……
Joe: This year is special, so there are tons of celebrations in Taiwan.
喬：對台灣來說，今年是特別的一年，有許多慶祝活動。
Beth: Really? Why?
貝絲：真的嗎？為什麼呢？
Joe: Well, it's kind of Taiwan's 100th birthday! The Republic of China was founded a hundred years ago, so it's a real milestone for our democracy.
喬：嗯。這是台灣100歲的生日！中華民國建國100年，對我們是個重要的民主里程碑。
Beth: So what's happening at New Year? Big parties and fireworks, I guess!
貝絲：那跨年會怎麼慶祝？我想會有很多大型活動跟煙火秀！
Joe: Of course! There's a huge display at Taipei 101, done by Cai Guo-Qiang, the famous firework artist. Lin Hwai-min is organizing a special performance and...
喬：當然囉！台北101有一場盛大煙火秀，由著名煙火藝術家蔡國強設計。當天晚上的表演活動由林懷民主導
Beth: The Cloud Gate choreographer! I've seen his stuff before! It's amazing!
貝絲：雲門舞集的編舞家！我以前看過他的作品！非常棒！
Joe: Right. His party is at the Da Jia Riverside Park in Taipei.
喬：對啊。他策畫的大型晚會將在台北大佳河濱公園舉行。
Beth: Wow! I was thinking of going to Kenting to get away from it all – but I guess I should stay in town.
貝絲：哇！我原本想去墾丁跨年，遠離擁擠的台北—但現在我想應該留下來了。
Joe: And the government has organized an exchange program for 100 young foreigners to come to Taiwan and stay in Taiwanese homes.They're only staying for ten days, but they'll be blogging about their experiences.
喬：今年政府還推出一個青年旅遊計劃，邀請100個國家的年輕人來台灣玩。他們將在台灣停留10天，還會把旅遊經驗即時上傳到個人部落格。
Beth: Lucky them! Taiwanese people are so hospitable! I wish I'd had an opportunity like that when I was young!
貝絲：他們好幸運喔！台灣人真好客！真希望我年輕時也有這樣的機會！
Joe: Hey – you're still young enough to party, and there'll be parties throughout the year.
喬：妳還是很年輕，可以去派對啊！今年整年都有相關活動。
