Weiya: Taiwan's year-end office party - A banquet to celebrate the end of the Chinese lunar year.
Dialogue 對話
Wang: Hey James, good to see you. What do you think of our office weiya?
James: Great! It's my first weiya party in Taiwan and I think it's a really good laugh. Why is the year-end party called a weiya though?
Wang: It means tail tooth. It represents the last chance in the year to have good luck.
James: It's a bizarre name. But it's just like the Christmas parties we have back in the UK, only better! The seafood buffet is delicious, and I just won a 42 inch plasma TV in the lucky draw!
Wang: Marvellous! I won an iPad.
James: Lucky you!
Wang: Well, I'm the boss, so I donated it back to the lucky draw.
James: Wow! You really love the team. Look, Mr. Lee, the head of the accounts department is dressed as Yao-Yao. He's singing her song Honey. It's hilarious!
Wang: And the women from the office look really hot in their cosplay outfits. I can hardly recognise them.
James: Ha-ha – now Dave from marketing is on stage doing magic tricks. His tricks are so feeble. They're funny.
Wang: Ha-ha, yes. And he's been rehearsing for months. Well, I better down my beer now and get ready. See you in a minute.
(soon after)
James: Mr. Wang. What a beautiful costume. You are dressed as a big, white bird.
Wang: Wish me luck! I'm performing Swan Lake.
