After 108 years, the Olympic Games returned to their Greek birthplace. The theme of the Athens Olympics is Welcome Home and the glittering opening ceremony features scenes from Greek mythology.

The Chinese Taipei baseball team qualified for the Olympics after 12 years. Chinese Taipei has placed in the top four in several international tournaments, including third in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. They will compete for a medal with other seven opponents in the Olympics.
