英國人說“That’s interesting”，不一定是「有趣」！其實是…

既然有趣，應該是很喜歡，怎麼會這樣？其實是彼此對Interesting的體會不同。
interesting這個字去查字典，意思是「很有趣」，但老外用這個字的時候，虛實不定，有時是正面有時是負面，取決於情境。來看劍橋字典的解釋：
1.引起人興趣的事：Someone or something that is interesting keeps your attention because he, she, or it is unusual, exciting, or has a lot of ideas
It is always interesting to hear other people's point of view.
知道別人的觀點是件有趣的事
2.很奇怪、與眾不同：（humorous）strange or different
She has a lot of interesting ideas, but they're not very practical.
她有很多稀奇古怪的點子，但都不太實際
很多老外，特別是紳士派的英國人，當他要拒絕你的時候，用"That’s interesting"經常是幽默地表達「這行不通」的意思，保持職場的優雅，不那麼直白，這時一定要聽得懂。
那是不是不能用interesting表示很有趣了呢？
還是可以用，只是像Interesting這個字使用頻率很高，意義就變得模糊。
當我們說"The book is interesting."時，就變得有點空泛，聽的人不知道我們想表達的是什麼，除非你想刻意製造一點懸疑讓人摸不著頭緒。
不用interesting，換具體一點的字：
空泛：The book is interesting.
具體：
The book is intriguing.
那書很精采，引人入勝，很多意想不到的情節
The book is amusing.
那書很有趣，機智詼諧，很多笑點
另外，Interesting和interested這兩個字，十個學生裡有七、八個會搞錯。我們來搞懂其中差別：
interesting→很有趣
interested→對…很有興趣
Interesting延伸的意思，大家熟悉的是「利息」，它還有一個意思是「股份」
例如：
I have an interest in a startup company.
我在一家新創公司持有股份
這句話也可以解做「我對新創公司有興趣」，但老外表達對事物的興趣，很少用"have an interest"，較常用"be interested in／take an interest in"。句子真正的涵意，總要在談中才能真正理解。
